Bill Ratz, President
Jon Marple, Vice President This is a picture of my son, Mike, and myself.  This picture is of us on the trolley at the Ohio Railway Museum in 06.  We have both been involved in model railroads all of our lives, and we both joined the scenic railroad in January 2007.  Since both of us are handicapped, we started (are) the handicapped committee of this railroad.  I currently hold two bachelors degrees; one in electrical engineering, and one in mechanical engineering.  I am also the main safety advocate of the railroad.  My philosophy is, “If you can’t make it safe, don’t make it at all.”  The most important thing in my life is my family, and my hobby is trains.  My wife has to put up with two train nuts, my son and I.  We go to train shows and have been on several scenic train rides in Ohio.  I’m a big jokester, and pick on everyone equally.  It’s all in good fun, though; so if I offend, just ignore me.  I’ve lived in Newark, Ohio all of my life and love the small town feel.  My favorite train movie is Emperor of The North.  I’m looking forward to giving everyone an enjoyable, safe time on our train.

Charlie Thomas, Trainmaster

Charlie is currently the Trainmaster.  His duties included maintaining and ensuring the safe operation or equipment operated on the rail.  Charlie was the last engineer to operate a locomotive on the Shawnee Branch for the Buckeye Central Scenic Railroad.  Currently Charlie is actively involved in the structuring or the new organization.  In his spare time he enjoys outdoor activities such as jet ski's and 4 wheelers.  Charlie is currently involved in a project to obtain and restore 2 hy-rail truck's to their original condition as it would have been used with the Chessie System.  Charlie has a passion for safety and has dedicated much time into the preservation and operation of railroad equipment.  He has expertise in telecommunications and structured cabling.  Charlie is always willing to give anyone who is interested a tour of the train and its operating line.  Moving to East Fultonham, Charlie will be situated directly across from the East Fultonham Yard.  You can contact Charlie at charlie.thomas@zwsr.org or on his cell phone at 740-281-7431.
